Christmas Carols, Loud Parties and Domestic Cleaning in Wimbledon

26/12/2012 23:54
I know it sounds like the title of an awful second grade film, but the last few days could really described with the words from the title – there were many Christmas carols (so many, in fact, that they started making me sick); the Christmas party I organised was so loud that the...

A Carpet Cleaning Drama in Wimbledon

Don’t throw parties in your own home! Ever! Or if you do, call a cleaning company to clean right after the party. Trust me! Unless you want to end up like me – cleaning for half a day and then realising in the end that you couldn’t deal with a huge stain on your carpet and you have to call a...

Agnes’ Dreams

Agnes woke up with an uneasy feeling. She had had a nightmare and hadn’t slept well at all. It was nasty feeling to welcome Monday tired as if you haven’t slept in days. She especially hated the fact that she had to go on and clean people’s houses all day while they get to rest. She frequently...

Wallace Walker was a good man. You could see it in his eyes, in the way he looked, in his behaviour – everything was screaming it. He was a rather short bloke, bald, with glasses, rather nerdy looking, insecure, and round-shouldered. Like many other good men, however, he made some bad...

Remember I told you about the great day I had with my niece a week ago? I had to babysit her in the weekend, because her parents went out and the maid from the domestic cleaning company came to do her job. We didn’t feel like going out, so we stayed in the house, but we invented a...

Do It Like A Dude

04/06/2012 15:05

Remember about my friend Jack’s apartment I told you about the last time? Well, I have been thinking that someone should help the boys to find some motivation for cleaning deep down in their souls. I know it won’t be easy, but anyways, some of these tips which I will share with you are really useful and deserve boys’ attention.

The toughest part for most of the boys is actually to get started at all with the cleaning of their place. They think it will be too time consuming and tiring (as it is), but the easiest way to get started and really do something about the cleaning thing is to pick a room and target your energy into cleaning it. The real magic is to start with something that will improve the living conditions in the room – like, for example, wash the pile of dirty dishes in the kitchen. And then, everything follows.

The next best thing you should start with is to put the room in order. Pick up all the dirty socks, t-shirts and so on, and put them in the washing machine. Then put some order in the rest of the mess around you to push your way through to the real task you have – cleaning. Avoid any distracters which may come into your way, because if you don’t you probably won’t do a thing and the whole mission will fail.

Then do the job in parts. Pick a quadrant of the room and start with it, doing one quadrant at a time. Become a modern Latin emperor and make “Divide et impera” (“Divide and Conquer) your motto. Make sure you have all you need with you, because I guarantee you that the whole situation will be even more frustrating for you, if you will have to go and look for something you need every five minutes.

After you do all the organizational work, you may start the actual cleaning. Make sure you start cleaning from top to bottom – or said in other words, ceiling to floor, because if you do that the other way round you will have to stop and do everything all over again.

So, I think these are the most important points you should try to cover when you gather your strengths and start with the cleaning. Oh, and some very practical tips – listen to music when cleaning the place. Choose fast tracks, because the slower ones will make you even more unmotivated. Then, you may try to set a time limit – that will make you more focused and you will race the time. And maybe the two most important ones – try to make a habit of yourself to de-clutter the things you scattered around the place (that will make things easier for you) and after all, don’t clean too much and too often. So, be a good cheer and try all that, boys! Do it like a dude :)
